A curved wing fence and gate on open sagebrush flat in Carbon County, Wyoming, north-west of Rawlins. Flown at low level so the fence itself, not just the ground, is reconstructed; delivered as a 3D model and a fly-through video for a livestock-gathering operator.

Scope & deliverables.

Capture

  • Aircraft and sensor: DJI Phantom 4 Pro (FC6310, 1-inch 20 MP RGB, 8.8 mm), firmware v01.07.1641.
  • Date and window: 4 November 2020, 07:11–07:22 local (11 minutes).
  • Images: 498 captured as JPEG + DNG pairs; the 249 JPEGs were processed, 249 of 249 calibrated (100%).
  • Flight: 21.3 m above takeoff (21.1–21.5 m), camera pitched 70° down, oblique grid in two passes. ISO 100.
  • Overlap: image spacing in the processing log (4.0 m along track, 3.1 m between lines, 31.2 × 20.8 m footprint) works out to roughly 81% forward and 90% side overlap.
  • Georeferencing: on-board geotags only, WGS 84 / UTM zone 13N (EPSG:32613). No ground control.
  • Conditions: early morning, low sun (long shadows in the products); daylight VFR, low wind, good visibility (operator's record).

Deliverables

  • Fly-through animation: MP4, 1920 × 1080, 60 fps, 48 s, 902 MB, the only file in the client Deliverable folder.
  • In the processing tree: orthomosaic GeoTIFF 4-band RGBA, 0.57 cm/px, 20,801 × 18,664 px, 363 MB (the exported mosaic lacks an embedded CRS tag; the DSM and tiles carry EPSG:32613, fix before any re-delivery); DSM float32 0.57 cm/px; simplified textured mesh OBJ (378 MB) and PLY (220 MB); densified point cloud LAS/XYZ; Pix4D quality report PDF (10 pages): 0.57 cm GSD, 1.13 ha / 2.79 acres. Processed 21 February 2021.
  • All of the above were delivered to the operator (operator's record); on the archive only the animation sits in the Deliverable folder.

Method boundary

RGB photogrammetry georeferenced from the aircraft's geotags, with no ground control. The model is internally consistent and suitable for visualising the fence alignment, pen geometry and approach, relative measurements between features, and briefing crews. It is not suitable for fence-line staking, boundary work, engineering design, or any product that carries professional responsibility; that work is routed through a licensed Professional Land Surveyor.

How accuracy was held.

Produced to a documented RGB photogrammetry workflow.

  • Low, constant height with tight line spacing so the fence rails are seen from many angles; 100% calibration; mean reprojection error 0.44 px (internal block fit).
  • Geotag positioning accepted as-is; no control points placed; no independent checkpoints.
